My guest A speaker is Mr. Jonathan Alexander, a sports journalist. Sports journalism is a field I have considered working in since high school. I enjoyed hearing some of Jonathan’s unique personal experiences and tips for success. As a journalist, he emphasized the importance of being in the know. Being in the know makes it possible to break stories which of massive importance to a journalist. Journalists gain major recognition for being the first person to break a story. It takes a lot of instincts and networking to get this information. With Jonathan’s experience breaking Cam Newton’s return to Carolina it barred the question how does a reporter get in the know. Jonathan expressed that putting yourself in rooms with people who have legitimate insight is important. Find the people that know what the public does not and establish a honest and transparent relationship with them. Trust is key let people tell the story as they see it. “Everyone always wants to tell their side of the story” Johnathan says, but when relying on sources you always want to have more than one. Jonathan says he always has at least three sources before publishing an article to verify the authenticity of the story. I am thankful to have heard Mr. Alexander speak about his quest. It has has inspired me to take the initiative to be ahead of the game.
